About the Business
Buckland Timber Ltd was started in 2012. The partnership was set up by Bill Blight and Ralph and Robin Nicholson with the purpose of producing a British grown and manufactured alternative to glulam imported from Europe.
Bill Blight and Ralph Nicholson both own and manage forestry in the South-West and the impetus for starting Buckland Timber was the desire to make better use of the high quality timber harvested in their own and the local area.
Currently almost 100% of structural glulam used in Britain is imported from other European countries, most from Germany, Austria and Sweden. Whilst there are a number of small British companies who have the capability of making small quantities of bespoke glulam, Buckland Timber are the only British company capable of manufacturing glulam on a scale that makes our product competitive with imports.
